Once a part of Strathcona County, Windermere was annexed by the greater City of Edmonton in 1982. Despite being home to some 80+ properties at the time, residential development was slow to start, with most homes in modern-day Windermere having been constructed in the late 2000s and beyond. As development in and around Windermere continues today, the area remains an attractive option for home buyers in search of a modern and/or new construction home.
