Fulton Place is a mature community located in Southeast Edmonton’s Greater Hardisty district. The area’s beginnings date back to the Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) and the arrival of early pioneers such as Richard Charles Hardisty. Hardisty, who established himself in the area in 1872, served as Chief Factor of Fort Edmonton and established several HBC cattle ranches to provide farming and ranching opportunities for newcomers. He also served as the first senator for the District of Alberta in 1888. (Source: Edmonton Journal)

Fulton Place was eventually annexed by the City of Edmonton in 1954, officially becoming a subdivision in 1956.

Did you know? Greater Hardisty consists of three established communities: Fulton Place, Capilano, Forest Heights, Terrace Heights and Gold Bar. Fulton Place is often referred to as “Hardisty” by those living there.

Though a small number of homes were established before the end of WWII, most residences were constructed during the 1950s.

Fulton Place Amenities

Fulton Place residents enjoy having everything they need within arms’ reach. The neighbourhood sits kitty-corner to Capilano Mall, featuring grocers, restaurants, big box retailers, medical services and more. Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre and the many boutique shops and services of trendy Whyte Ave are also readily accessible, as are Jasper Ave and the downtown core.

Parks and Recreation 

Fulton Place is highly celebrated for its recreational opportunities, including the Hardisty Leisure Centre, an arena, pocket parks, playgrounds and more. The neighbourhood also houses an active community league which hosts various events and programs (skating, swimming, garden club, walking club, etc.) throughout the year. Fulton Ravine Park defines the community to the west and offers 1.5 km of walking trails and ample open and treed green space to explore. Fulton Place also sits within walking distance of the scenic North Saskatchewan River Valley as well as Gold Bar Park and Goldstick Park.

Fulton Place Schools

There is one school in Fulton Place, a public elementary/junior high, offering regular and Logos Christian alternative programming. Additional educational opportunities, including Catholic schools, daycares, preschools and private institutions, can all be found within the surrounding communities. Fulton Place also provides easy access to the University of Alberta, which can be reached in less than 15-minutes via 98th Ave and 109th Street.

Did you know? Fulton Place School closed in 2010. It now houses various community-based and non-profit organizations, including the Fulton Child Care Association. The association provides daycare and out-of-school care programs for children aged 0-12 years, free family programs and workshops, a natural outdoor play area and more.

Ten Minutes to Downtown Edmonton

Fulton Place is bounded by Fulton Creek to the west, 106th Ave to the north, 50th Street to the east and 101st Ave to the south. Those living in the community enjoy a swift commute to city centre along adjoining 98th Ave and north and south Edmonton via nearby Wayne Gretzky Drive. Fulton Place is considered somewhat walkable/bikeable, as many errands can be accomplished on foot or by bike. The neighbourhood also offers good transit access.

Did you know? According to the Areavibes Livability Index, Fulton Place crime rates are 5% lower than  the Edmonton average. Real estate prices are also 2% lower. In addition, the neighbourhood is highly rated for its amenities and educational opportunities.
