Ellerslie is a developing neighbourhood situated in scenic Southeast Edmonton. Though the community was officially established in the early 2000s, Ellerslie’s roots are thought to date back to the late 1800s with the arrival of several Scottish settlers. Ellerslie, along with the rural county of Wernerville, were annexed by the Town of Edmonton in 1892, where it remained rural farmland for the next 100 years.  Today, Ellerslie is a thriving new community characterized by large amounts of open green space, close proximity to popular amenities and a diverse array of new home styles.

Did you know? Though Ellerslie has been used to designate the area since the 19th century, its origins remain unclear. Some sources claim early settlers John and Hamed McLaggan named the area after a character in a Sir William Scott novel. Low-maintenance apartment-style condos account for another 10%, followed by a smaller number of duplexes. Extremely amenity-friendly, Ellerslie offers residents convenient access to countless shops, services, restaurants, recreation venues and more. In addition to the many retailers established along bordering 91st Street and Ellerslie Road (including grocers, medical services, banks, coffee shops and more), popular South Edmonton common can be found less than 10 minutes away.

A Convenient Commute 

Ellerslie is bounded by 91st Street to the west, 66th Street to the east and Ellerslie Road to the south. Thanks to the community’s proximity to Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail, locals can reach both downtown Edmonton and the Edmonton International Airport in less than 30 minutes. The south Anthony Henday also flanks the neighbourhood to the north. 

Transit opportunities within Ellerslie remain under development, though the does feature some bus access. The upcoming Capital LRT line extension will also see LRT service extended from Century Park to Ellerslie, with a new station to be established along Ellerslie Road. 

Did you know? As Edmonton’s Valley LRT line nears completion, residents will enjoy greater access to both south Edmonton and the greater capital region as a whole.
