Are you in search of homes for sale or other real estate opportunities in Stony Plain? Here’s what you need to know.

About Stony Plain

Stony Plain is a vibrant community situated in Parkland County, just 17 kilometres west of Edmonton. First established in the late 1800s by settlers Alex McNabb and John McPherson, the name “Stony Plain” has two possible origins: the indigenous Stony peoples who inhabited the area or from geologists taking note of the number of boulders scattered throughout the region. Stony Plain was referred to as Dog Rump Creek until the name was officially changed in 1892.

After the arrival of the CNR railroad in 1905, Stony Plain’s population grew rapidly, increasing to over 1,000 inhabitants by 1908. Today, with over 18,000 people, Stony Plain boasts a rich cultural history while offering residents and newcomers city-sized amenities and a thriving business environment. In addition to a vast array of real estate and transportation options, the community is celebrated for its excellent school district and a healthy mix of locally and nationally owned shops, restaurants, recreation venues and services.
