Delton and Eastwood represent two of the oldest communities in Edmonton. Located just north of the downtown core, these dual neighbourhoods amalgamated with the greater city in 1910. Further development was spurred by a local streetcar line, which saw several homes and businesses crop up in and around the area. Boasting quiet streets and unbeatable historic charm, Delton and Eastwood are a “must-see” for anyone looking for a mature neighbourhood with a comfortable community feel.

Did you know? Delton was named after Edward Delegare Grierson, a Canadian Pacific railway employee who went on to own several properties along famed Jasper Ave. Grierson also served as an Edmonton city councillor in the early 1900s.

Home Styles in Delton and Eastwood 

Although residential development in the area didn’t really take off until after WWII, by the early 1950s, Delton and Eastwood were home to an abundance of single-family residences – many of which remain today. In fact, both neighbourhoods feature some of Edmonton’s oldest historic homes, offering unique character, boundless charm and modern upgrades.

Of course, home buyers looking for something other than a historic, character bungalow can also find what they’re looking for in Delton and Eastwood. Their mature tree-lined avenues, proximity to amenities, and fantastic locations have made these two communities a prime spot for infill. Ultra-Accessible Amenities 

Delton and Eastwood sit notably close to Northlands and the Edmonton Expo Centre, as well as Edmonton’s central business district, Commonwealth Stadium and Commonwealth Recreation Centre. Locally these neighbourhoods feature several parks and playgrounds, two active community leagues and several schools, including:

From skating to soccer, residents in the area have ample opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors and benefit from a variety of family-friendly programs and activities (right in the heart of their very own neighbourhoods).

Even better, thanks to their proximity to downtown Edmonton, residents in the area are just moments away from the city’s most celebrated recreation and entertainment venues, including Rogers Place, the Art Gallery of Alberta, the Royal Alberta Museum, and the abundance of bars, shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants located along famed Jasper Avenue.

Commuting is Easy 

Delton and Eastwood are bounded by 97th Street to the west, the Yellowhead Highway to the north, Fort Road to the east and 118th Ave to the south. Eastwood is also bisected by 82nd Street which along with 97th, runs north and south – providing quick and convenient access to both downtown and the greater city of Edmonton via the Yellowhead. Other major thoroughfares such as Fort Road, Manning Drive and Wayne Gretzky Drive can be reached with a 5-minute drive or less.

Both neighbourhoods are also extraordinarily walkable and transit-friendly – an ideal combination for those who prefer to take the bus or train. Additionally, the Capital LRT line (Coliseum Station) can be found in Eastwood’s east end, allowing residents from both communities to enjoy streamlined access north to Clareview and south to Century Park.

Did you know? One of Edmonton’s original streetcar lines (1910) operated in Delton and Eastwood, running from 95th Street along 118th Ave. This streetcar line also led to the development of many businesses along this busy thoroughfare, which continues to host a number of thriving shops and services today.
