Little Scares (All Ages)

Haunted Pumpkin Festival

The Haunted Pumpkin Festival is one of the most popular Halloween events in the capital region. Every year, the folks at Prairie Gardens Adventure Farm put on a month-long Spooktacular – featuring everything from pumpkin cannons and haunted houses (no gore) to hayrides and corn mazes.

When: Every weekend throughout October

Imax Theatre Costume Party 

All aboard! Join Dracula and the rest of the gang for the ultimate cruise and costume party! Held at the Telus World of Science, this all-morning event features an optional hot breakfast, spooky science-related activities, Halloween treats and an Imax showing of Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.

Held at the Whitemud Equine Learning Centre Association, Hallow-Whinny is a one-of-a-kind evening full of crafts, costumes and, of course, horses! After participating in the pool noodle horse race or the glowlight pumpkin toss, guests can join the horses for a costume parade and photo op.

When: October 26th, 2019

Boo at the Zoo

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Boo at the Zoo allows visitors of all ages to take in a few Halloween festivities while visiting with the animals. This year’s event includes crafts, science experiments and an extinct animal graveyard. There will be plenty of prizes and treats too, so don’t forget your costume and reusable treat bag.

Edmonton Ghost Tours 

Catch a ride on an unearthly trolley or take a haunted hike with the creepy folks at Edmonton Ghost Tours. Eerie and educational, you’ll learn more about Edmonton’s dark history as you mingle with the ghosts of Old Strathcona – but be warned, these spooky spectres just might make you a permanent part of the tour.

Festival of Fear

Horror movie buffs unite! The Festival of Fear is returning to the historic Princess Theatre for another weekend of sinister cinema. This year’s event will feature over 50 brand-new horror and thriller movies, including several shorts and eight full-length films. Visit the website for tickets, listings and show times.

Deadmonton House 

Deadmonton House has become one of Edmonton’s most (in)famous Halloween attractions. Every year, the professional haunted house both delights and horrifies with its troupe of terrifying cast members and spine-tingling scenarios. While children are allowed, the event is not recommended for anyone under the age of 14.

When: Thursdays through Sundays in October, October 28 – November 3, 2019

ScreamFest

Aptly named, this hair-raising event is sure to make scream. Featuring six haunted houses (of varying themes), rides, carnival games, live entertainment and much more, the festival has been regarded as both the largest and scariest Halloween attraction in Canada. Children may attend ScreamFest with adult supervision, though it is not recommended.

When: October 24th –27, 2019

Somewhere in Between (Youth)

DARK, Fort Edmonton Park 

Held at Fort Edmonton Park, DARK is a Halloween scare event geared towards teens and adults (14A). Guests wandering through the park will have access to three equally creepy haunts, a variety of scare zones and the deathly DARK Circle (a full concession featuring food, drink and live entertainment). Visitors can also participate in any one of the event’s premium experiences (Fort Fear and Dead Centre of Town) for an additional fee.

When: Thursdays – Saturdays in October, Wednesday, October 30th

Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes 

See your favourite comic characters come to life at the Telus World of Science! Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes is a travelling exhibit that includes over 300 rare franchise artifacts – including costumes, props and comic books. Visitors will also appreciate the exhibit’s many interactive displays – including a digital transformation into Iron Man and Super Hero selfies!

When: Opens October 19th, 2019

Fright Night at Galaxyland

For one night only, the ghouls and goblins of Galaxyland will take over for a fun-filled evening of loud music, adrenaline-pumping rides, eerie illusions and horrific haunts. Prizes will be awarded throughout the event, so don’t forget your costume!

A one-day event geared towards youths 13-17, the Halloween How-To  gives teens the chance to pick up a few professional makeup tips and make their own costume – all topped off with a delicious pizza dinner around the campfire. Even better, the entire workshop is FREE, all you need to do is register!
